Choice & Presence

Working with the nervous system is very powerful. Knowing how to attend to the nervous system provides access to what the body knows.

The intelligence and wisdom of the body can be distorted and dimmed by the stories we are told and those we tell ourselves based on what we have been through.

A person could live out the same stories over and over again. Until entry is gained into where the information driving the system is activated, we can remain stuck in patterns of being that play out again and again. These are the samskaras described within the yoga tradition. Finding the entry point allows access to the places that we hold things so that they can be transformed. Those places exist in the body. Having a relationship with your physical and energetic body is essential to healthy balance.

For many people, distress pushes their awareness out of their body. Considering the dimensions of information and how it lives in you, checking in with the condition of your body and your relationship to it is preventative as well as curative. Developing this care and awareness builds capacity to be more present more of the time.

This is why it is important to do the practice that works for you. Your relationship with your own bodymind is the anchor that enhances all others. In any situation, having options is important! There are modifications that I offer for the postures to make them accessible when mobility is limited, but also to remind you of your autonomy and power to chose. This capacity for choice developed on the mat is one of those yoga benefits you can take everywhere. Finding ways to modify and grow in even the stuckest of places, navigating obstacles with ease. Whole being flexibility!
